OUTLINE

What were the needs of the project?

The team working on the project, a social network aimed at tackling social issues, needed somebody to organise the answers received during the interview and research process and find a narrative behind them. There was also the need to create the content in English for the cards to be used in the workshop to test the prototypes.

What were the challenges?

Having not had the chance to attend the interviews, my conclusions and structure had to be based on the recordings done by the team working on the project.

How did I approach the project?

My main aim was to be able to organise the interviewees into a narrative based on the objectives, needs and aspirations pointed at in their answers. It was important to provide different clusters which worked as individual entities but also worked together in a balanced way.

What did I deliver?

I delivered internal documents which showed and justified each of the categories the potential users could be classified into.

REAL EXAMPLES

Here is an example of the categorisation I provided, based on the answers in the interviews, for the information architecture part of the project:

HS - Insights

Social Networks

- Polar usage: No networks / adept users

“I’m not a social network guy” - Muz

“I don’t have social networks. I feel insecure about sharing my data” - Bea

“I don’t follow anyone” - Carlos

“I used to have many social networks but I deleted them. There’s no point to them” - Muz

“I believe in the power of social networks” - Chander

“I have 30k followers on Instagram” - Gonzalo

“I use many social networks: Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, LinkedIn, Telegram, YouTube…” - Joan

- Being connected doesn’t condition usage : Passive users

“I don’t have a Twitter account but I look for and read accounts that interest me” - Bea

“I use Twitter to see what people are talking about, but I don’t participate” - Maria

- Reluctant to interact

“It seems like you cannot be wrong” - Bea

“I like seeing but not giving my opinion in public” - Silvia

“It is easy to be disrespectful on social networks. Yo cannot show you are mistaken.” - Carlos

“Sometimes the information you receive seems unquestionable.” - Bea

- Use and perception of networks

“I only have an account on Instagram and Facebook, but Instagram is more personal”- Teresa

“Twitter is for reading” - Gonzalo

“I don’t know why I use Facebook. It makes no sense. I only have an account so as not to lose contact with friends and to get the news.” - Joan

“I stopped using Snapchat because all my friends left”  - Maria

“I believe in the power of social networks. Some people don’t have an education but everybody uses social networks.” - Chander

“I use Instagram to debate some topics. Sometimes I stop following the person I disagree with.” - Gonzalo
